Housing Office Check-In & Check-Out of Your Residence Hall
Residents must officially check-in with their Residence Life staff each semester. Please see Check-In Schedule for specific days/times.
Fall Check-In
New students should plan to arrive and check-in with residence hall staff on the Wednesday prior to the first day of classes during their designated time. Please see Check-In Schedule for specific days/times.
Returning students who have not checked into their campus rooms yet complete check-in with residence hall staff on the weekend prior to classes beginning at the following times:
- Saturday from 10:00am–2:00 PM or 7:00 PM–9:00 PM
- Sunday from 7:00 PM–9:00 PM
IMPORTANT: Incoming students must complete check-in during one of the listed times. Moving into your assigned room outside of these times may result in a $100 charge. ID cards must be obtained for the electronic door locks. Students who are not officially approved by Housing to arrive early for Fall will incur a $100 charge along with the possibility of additional housing charges and/or sanctions. This also applies to any student who "hosts" an unapproved guest (roommate, etc.).
Some intercollegiate groups may be allowed to return to campus prior to check-in weekend. However, these must be approved in advance with Housing. See the Special Housing page for more information.
Fall Check-Out
Residence Halls close for Winter Break on Saturday immediately after finals at 12:00 noon. Unless granted special approval for extended checkout (e.g. basketball teams) from Housing or Residence Life, all students must be out by this time. All Fall campus residents approved to change rooms for Spring must do this work before leaving for Winter Break!
Spring Check-In
New students should plan to arrive and check-in with residence hall staff on the Saturday prior to the first day of classes from 11:00am–1:00 PM.
Other students who have not checked into their campus rooms yet (i.e. those returning from Fall away/abroad programs, leave of absence, or re-applicants) complete check-in with residence hall staff on:
- Saturday, January 10: 11:00am–1:00 PM or 7:00 PM–9:00 PM
- Sunday, January 11: 7:00 PM–9:00 PM
Returning residents may return to their campus rooms on the weekend immediately preceding the first day of Spring semester. The residence halls re-open at 12:00 noon on Saturday, and ID cards will be needed for the electronic door locks.
IMPORTANT: Incoming students must complete check-in during one of the listed times. Moving into your assigned room outside of these times may result in a $100 charge. ID cards must be obtained for the electronic door locks. Students who are not officially approved by Housing to arrive early for Fall, remain during a portion of Winter Break, or stay late in May will incur a $100 charge along with the possibility of additional housing charges and/or sanctions. This also applies to any student who "hosts" an unapproved guest (roommate, etc.).
Some intercollegiate groups may be allowed to return to campus prior to check-in weekend. However, these must be approved in advance with Housing. New or returning students who have not been in campus housing during the Fall semester are typically not provided housing until official Spring housing check-in. See the Special Housing page for more information.
Spring Check-Out
The spring semester check-out deadline is 12:00 pm (noon) on the Friday of finals week. The spring deadline applies to all students not officially involved in graduation ceremonies or authorized to stay by the Housing Office (e.g., for reasons such as Mayterm, athletics, summer residency at Ocean View, or Westmont summer employment). If you are authorized to stay in Westmont housing beyond the Friday of finals week, you have until 12:00 pm (noon) on the Sunday after commencement to check out. Residence Life does NOT conduct any checkouts on the Saturday of commencement so the entire Westmont community can celebrate with the graduating seniors.
Check-Out Mid-Semester
If you are withdrawing from classes or have been approved by Residence Life to change rooms, you will need to officially check-out of your room. Start by scheduling a check-out time with your RA. Before your designated check-out time, remove all personal belongings and fully clean your room, including, dusting, vacuuming, and wiping out drawers. You will give your key to the RA at your scheduled time and sign a check-out form.
IMPORTANT: Don't forget to grab personal items from public spaces, such as bathroom items, surfboards, bikes, etc.
