He earned a master's degree and doctorate in Sociology from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He has published research on religion, political polarization, health inequalities, and discrimination. More recent research projects include exploring the role of modern technology in the changing nature of our social relationships, along with a project examining the effects of social policies on the formerly incarcerated in California.
